Every year at the start of the World Cup ski racing season, the sport's women athletes hit the slopes of Lake Louise for the Downhill and Super G events. The Super G is held on one day, usually following the Downhill event.

Every November, the World Cup of skiing gets underway with its Downhill and Super G competitions at Lake Louise. For the men, the Downhill takes place on Saturday, followed by the Super G on Sunday, both of which feature some of the top names in alpine skiing.

In late November, the ski season at Lake Louise kicks off with the start of the World Cup circuit and ski enthusiasts can catch the professionals in action at Lake Louise for one of the season's first downhill races.

The first weekend in December, the world's finest female skiers descend on Lake Louise for a World Cup Downhill and Super G competition. In addition to being able to view the finishing area of the race, the event will feature entertainment for the whole family, including giveaways and contests.

The Heavy Metal Rail Jam is an annual Lake Louise event featuring skiers and riders of all ages competing on rails and boxes for thousands of dollars in cash and product prizes. Competitors must have valid lift ticket, helmet and parental consent if under 18.

The Summit Cup is a Lake Louise tradition and is held every April on the mountain. The event features a dual slalom race for amateurs that showcase skills developed over the winter season.

This annual ski and snowboard event is hosted by Lake Louise Mountain Resort and features athletes laying down some huge jumps in hopes of winning the huge cash purse. The competition includes six categories: Women's Open Ski, Women's Open Snowboard, Men's Junior Ski (15 and under), Men's Junior Snowboard (15 and under), Men's Open Ski and Men's Open Snowboard.

What is the Mountain Smoker? It's an epic event held every spring at Norquay to see how many runs skiers can log on the Lone Pine in three hours. That's three hours of intense skiing that will create a reputation to last a lifetime!

The current record held by Bob Rankin (1981) is 22 runs in 3 hours (30,000 vertical feet)

Entry forms can be picked up from Mountain Magic Equipment in Banff or Mt Norquay Guest Services. Competitors can enter on competition day.

The C.R.E.A.M. Rail Jam is an amateur snowboard contest series at Lake Louise Mountain Resort. The competition features four divisions: 12 & under, 15 & under, Men's Open and Women All Ages.

This annual ski race, sponsored by the Lake Louise Ski Club, is held in March and celebrates the life of Canadian skier, Doug Meyers. The memorial cup is held over two days at the Lake Louise Ski Area and features giant slalom and slalom racing.

This annual event has been taking place for well over 35 years, making it Western Canada's oldest organized loppet. The ski race, which is held in March and organized by the Calgary Ski Club, begins on the lake and features competitions for classic techniques, wooden skis and historic costumes. Open to all ages.

The annual Lake Louise Pond Hockey Classic isn't the average pond hockey match. The pond in this case is Lake Louise and the final two teams of the tournament (which features 16 teams in all) will play at the Alberta Pond Hockey Championships.

This annual challenge is held at the Lake Louise Ski Area and sees Canadian Junior athletes competing in three days of exciting and competitive freeskiing. The competition features three age categories for children and teens aged seven to 17.

This annual Big Mountain competition at Lake Louise is sponsored by Smith Optics and features freeskiers from across North America competing on different terrain over three days. Competitors must be 18 or older, open to both men and women.

The Lake Louise Torchlight Dinner and Ski is a must see and do, offering an evening gala complete with appetizers, a full buffet dinner, live entertainment and a guided torchlight ski down the mountain.

In April, Lake Louise visitors can take in the ski resort's annual Cardboard Box Downhill Derby. Sleds are built using only cardboard, string, tape, and glue and strive to be the fastest on the mountain.

Entry is open to the public (teams of 1-4 people) and prizes are given for the top three times and three best designs.
